This operation by the 198th Infantry Brigade involved unilateral and combined tactical operations
with the 6th ARVN Infantry Regiment, 2nd ARVN Division, and province forces to "find, fix, and
destroy enemy main force and local force units, to harass and interdict enemy LOC's [Lines of
Communications] and to support the GVN Pacification and Development Plan."  Three US infantry
battalion (1st Bn 6th Inf, 1st Bn 52nd Inf, and 5th Bn 46th Inf), four ARVN Infantry Battalions and
Quang Ngai and Quang Tin Provincial Forces were to conduct combat operations in the respective
tactical areas of operations.

     Specific missions for the 1st Bn 6th Inf included:

a.  Maintain liaison with Binh Son and Son Tinh district headquarters to coordinate rapid reaction
forces, artillery fires, combat operations, and intelligence.

b.  Be prepared to provide reaction forces to defend or relieve the city of Binh Son; to reinforce or
evacuate the SF/CIDG camps at Ha Thanh and Tra Bong.

c.  To provide bridge and convoy security as required along Highway QL1, and to support Engineer
road operations on HL 521 to LZ Minuteman.

d.  Commit a minimum of one infantry company to the Combined Unit Pacification Program.

e.  Conduct harassing and interdiction operations along likely approaches to Chu Lai along likely
rocket and mortar firing sites.
