Commander, 1st Battalion 6th Infantry, US Army Vietnam

Photo of the first commander in Vietnam of the 1st Battalion 6th Infantry, LTC William J. Baxley, Jr.
with Dave Ross, the PSNCO for the unit.  LTC Baxley was commander of the unit from its activation
at Fort Hood, Texas, until 1 April 1968  when he became the Americal Divison ACofS G3 and was
replaced by a LTC Kelley.  LTC Baxley served as the Division G3 until 28 Sep 68 when he was
replaced by MAJ Colin Powell (General Officer and Secretary of State).  Photos provided by Dave
